Deacon Committees
About Deacon Committees
Deacon committees work under the guidance of the Board of Deacons. Members of each committee are ordained deacons.
Babysitting
Recruits volunteers to provide babysitting during session committee meetings, the second Monday of each month, and for other church-sponsored events--as requested.
Cards
Extends Christian nurture via cards to our members who are sick, bereaved, or shut-in, for birthdays, births, etc.
Communion
Prepares communion and clean-ups after the service 0n the dates designated by the session.
Fellowship Pads
Collects fellowship pad sign-in sheets after church services and submits them to the office.
Flowers
Delivers chancel flowers and any special flowers (rosebuds, wedding/furneral arrangements), to shut-ins and/or hospitalized members.
Food Pantry
Delivers the monthly collection of donated food items to the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Harrisburg and New Hope Ministries in Mechanicsburg.
Project Fix-It
Assists with simple household jobs, such as replacing a washer in a facucet, simple carpentry repairs, small household jobs, yard work, etc. The "fix-it" service is for our elderly, or others who may not have the means to pay professional repairmen to do simple jobs.
Recordings
Sees that any shut-in of our congreation receives a CD of church services if desired. Provides audio recordings of the sermons to the Web Team.
Soup Kitchen
Sets-up for and serves the mid-day meal on the first and third Mondays for Downtown Daily Bread Soup Kitchen at the Boyd Center at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg. The hot lunch is served from 12:30 to 1:30.
Telephone
Makes follow-up calls to members recently discharged from hospitalization or experiencing grief.
Transportation
Provides transportation for "shut-ins" or any member requiring a ride to a doctor, pharmacy, beauty parlor, shopping or whatever. Requests need to come at least a day ahead, or can be set up a week ahead. The person can be dropped off at the appointment and picked up later, or you can wait, depending on the circumstances.
Visits
Visits "shut-ins" and others who are hospitalized.
Wellness
Educates church members on the inter-relationship of spirituality, health, and well-being, by offering special topics in Sunday School classes, seminars, and health screening tests (i.e. blood pressure, cholesterol screening).
