Plans, supervises, and coordinates the entire educational program of the church with specific oversight of the Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Presbyterian Youth Connection (PYC), Confirmation program, Kids Klub, Playful Beginnings pre-school, the nursery, all other study groups, and other educational activities sponsored by the church and its organizations. Recruits and trains teachers and leaders and reviews and recommends resources used for Christian education programs. Oversees distribution of scholarship funds for camp and college.
Prepares and updates position descriptions for all employees in consultation with the staff member, chairperson(s) of related committee(s), and pastors; reviews job performances annually; recommends changes in salary and working conditions; provides support and guidance for the pastor as head of staff; is available to all staff members to enhance their working relationships; and surveys need for additional staff positions. The committee also prepares and updates policies and the employee handbook, participates in the interview and selection of employees and ensures personnel issue are addressed thru the chain of command prior to being brought to the committee.
Creates an atmosphere for individual enrichment through interaction with others. Provides opportunities for church-wide fellowship such as Sunday coffee hour, after church lunches and church dinners. Facilitates formation of small groups such as Dinner for Eight and Book Club.
Oversees all church funds, including gifts and bequests and endowments. Prepares and monitors the annual budget; responsible for purchasing procedures and is liaison with the Church Treasurer, working closely with church staff. Guides programs to raise funds for all church operations and mission and educates the congregation in giving.
Leads the congregation in seeking to fulfill its commitment to serve the Lord through participation in and/or financial support of mission work conducted locally, nationally, and globally. Identifies areas of need for mission support and organizations addressing those needs. Seeks to develop relationships with selected organizations to actively support their work. Provides communication to the congregation about mission needs and efforts to encourage their prayerful, financial, and participatory support of mission programs.
Provides for an orderly and consistent transition of Church Officers as defined in the Book of Order. Nominates candidates for the offices of Elder and Deacon to replace those who are completing their term or who are unable to continue their service. Recommends nominees for other committees as directed by session. The nominees' names are placed before the congregation for final approval.
Endeavors: to actively involve and engage the congregation in peacemaking and justice in our community, nation, and world; to inspire us as children of God to be involved as peacemakers and justice-seekers; and to learn what it means to be at peace with God and one another.
Maintains the church building, Youth Center, rental property, manse, and church grounds; establishes guidelines for the use of the church facilities; undertakes improvement and repair projects through oversight of vendors or the use of volunteers. The work of the committee and the church custodian is a continual process.
This committee was created in the beginning of 2010 and is in the organizational phase.
Oversees the church's computer system, website, office equipment, and telephone system.
Develops ways to welcome visitors by extending our hearts and hands to those who are searching for a church home. Actively integrates new members into the life of the congregation through the Barnabas Ministry. Works with other groups to make the church more welcoming and accessible to visitors and members. Ensures that the congregation understands its role to welcome others into our church.
