Stop, Look and Listen: An Advent Poem

Stop, Look and Listen: An Advent Poem

Life is hectic
With important and enjoyable things
But sometimes it’s necessary to take a break
From all that busyness and stop, look, and listen.

To stop, to cease, to pause, take a break.
To rest and spend some time
Being instead of doing.
Enjoying the company of friends and family

To look and see, to glance or gaze
To examine, consider, observe.
Focusing inward as well as out
Taking in the beauty of the world

To listen and attend, to hearken, pay heed
Taking note of that still, small voice
That calls amidst all the noise
Saying I will give you rest

And in taking the time
To stop, look and listen
I discover the greatest gifts
The hope and peace, the joy and love of God
