Vacation Bible School

In the summer, a Vacation Bible School is offered for children from age 3 through those entering Grade 5. Junior and senior highs assist as teachers and aides in our yearly VBS. VBS has traditionally been held in the mornings, but the date varies from year to year.

August 8-12, 2011.


"Inside Out & Upside Down on Main Street, Where Jesus makes a difference everyday!"

The theme for the week taught five parables and related them to our children's everyday lives and to our own community.

We made covers for the flower delivery cans in Mission Mania while another class worked on crafts at the Funhouse Factory.

Parable Productions - The feature at the Bible Theater today was the Parable of the Whiny Workers with emphasis on the word of the day - Gratitude.  We participated in acting out the parable.

We stopped at the Brown Bag Bistro for the Field Worker's Special - a snack of cheese and grape kabobs while others were learning some new songs with motions at Main Street Melodies in the choir room.

Tuesday August 9 - The word of the day is "Compassion"

The Parable of the Roadside Rescus (The Good Samaritan) gives us our word for the day - Compassion.
We made shirt bags to store all the crafts we make this week.
Other activities: The Brown Bag Bistro where today's  special was the Traveler's Treat Walking Stick, Main Street Melodies, indoor play, Mission Mania  -making covers for flower delivery cans.

Wednesday, August 10 - The Word of the Day is Forgiveness


The Parable of the Shocking Servant tought us the word of the day - Forgiveness
The Brown Bag Bistro served Jail Mix Gumbo and the Firehouse Fitness crew played a bucket brigade challenge.
We were read a story about Forgiveness at Mission Mania, the decorated flower delivery cans were put on display, and the in Funhouse Factory we worked on IOUs.
Sidewalk Celebration included enthusiatic singing, a skit, symbolically laying down our burdens and a prayer.

Thursday, August 11 - The Word of the Day is Grace

The Parable of the Warm Welcome (The Prodigal Son) taught us the word of the day - Grace, Mission Mainia worked with maps of the world.

Firehouse Fitness, Funhouse Factory make napkin rings, The Brown Bag Bistro served Party Platter, and food and blanket for new Hope Ministries.

Friday, August 12 - the Word of the Day is Faithfulness

The Parable of the Master's Money taught us the word of the day - Faithfulness.

We were very busy at the Funhouse Factory today.  We made sand bottles with hidden treasures representing the 5 parables we learned this week.  We also worked on bags for Christmas Card for Prison Ministries.

The Brown Bag Bistro served fruit cup surprise.  Kathy showed the kids some of the mission projects our church supports - mosquito nets, the Community Garden, and the location of the 4 missionary couples our church supports.

Friday, August 12, Closing Picnic - 5 PM

Playing on the rock, singing for our families, and enjoying a delicious picnic dinner.
