Mission Trips
Each year members of MPC participate in various mission trips.
2011
-
For the third time, adults
traveled to Huntington, West Virginia, to work on homes with Habitat for Humanity.
- In the spring, the Confirmation Class and Senior High Youth traveled to Philadelphia. One half of the group worked in urban gardens while the other half worked in a food pantry.
- The youth traveled to Red Lake, Minnesota, in July to work on a native American reservation.
- A few church members ventured to Honduras with the Presbytery of Carlisle to become part of our Presbytery’s partnership with the Presbytery of Honduras.
2012 Mission Trips
- We have decided that there is enough interest in a trip to Honduras to plan one of our own! The dates for this trip are June 10-17, and we will work on building a house for a member of one of the Presbyterian churches in Tegucigalpa. We will stay at the retreat center owned by Tim and Gloria Wheeler. Participants will be asked to contribute $500 towards the cost of this trip. The rest of the expense, including $3-4,000 to build the house, will be raised by fundraisers.
- A return adult trip to Habitat for Humanity in Huntington, West Virginia, is also planned for the week of May 13-19, 2012. Participants will be asked to contribute $50 towards the cost, and the rest of the money is raised through the sale of Giant gift cards.
- Two trips for youth are also being planned by Associate Pastor Mark Allio.
