Session Committee's Responsibilities

Christian Education

Plans, supervises and coordinates the entire educational program of the church, with specific oversight of the Sunday School program, Vacation Bible School, Presbyterian Youth Connection, Confirmation program, Kids Klub program, Playful Beginnings, and all other study groups and activities sponsored by the church and its organizations.  Recruits and trains teachers and leaders and reviews and recommends resources.

Terry Cornish, Chair

Church Staff

Is responsible to prepare and update position descriptions for all employees in consultation with the staff member, chairpersons of related committee, and pastor; review job performances annually; recommend changes in salary and working conditions; provide support and guidance for pastor as head of staff; be available to all staff members to enhance their working relationship; survey need for additional staff positions.

Ted Foor, Chair

Mission   

Leads the congregation in seeking to fulfill its commitment to serve the Lord through participation in and/or financial support of mission work conducted locally, nationally and globally.  Identifies areas of need for mission support and organizations addressing those needs.  Seeks to develop relationships with selected organizations to actively support their work.  Provides communication to the congregation about mission needs and efforts to encourage their prayerful, financial, and participatory support of mission programs.

Nominating

To provide an orderly and consistent transition of Church Officers, as defined in the Book of Order. This Committee nominates candidates for the offices of Elder and Deacon to replace those who are completing their term or who are unable to continue their service. The nominees' names are placed before the congregation for final approval.

Bob Bell, Chair

Peacemaking and Justice   

Evaluates and recommends appropriate action to Session on Peacemaking and Justice issues and provides educational programs in Peacemaking and Justice for the entire congregation. Develops strategies and activities related to Peacemaking and Justice along with pro-active sponsorship of Bread for the World Covenant, and commitment to Peacemaking, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Mary Polson, Chair

Property and Maintenance

Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of church grounds and buildings and guidelines for the use of the building.  Undertakes improvement projects through the oversight of vendors or through the use of volunteers.  Shares responsibility with the Staff Committee and the head of staff for the hiring and supervision of the custodian.

Ran Singiser, Chair

Spiritual Life and Fellowship

Is responsible for providing programs to deepen the relationship of church members with their Lord and with each other.  Encourages participation of existing members.  Oversees the sponsor family program, and is a link if necessary to the session for the prayer chain.

Catherine Gray, Chair

Stewardship and Finance

Guides the church's stewardship program to raise funds for Capital Campaigns, local and general mission and educates the congregation in giving.  Is responsible for the oversight of the Memorial Scholarship and Memorial Gift funds; provides for annual audit and monthly financial reports; recommends the investment of funds; purchasing procedures; hires and supervises church treasurer.  Provision for insurance coverage.

Nickie Shaddock, Chair

Technology

Formerly the Computer Committee, this committee has oversight for the church's computer system, web site, copiers, other office equipment and the telephone system.  They meet every other month.

Gary Huber, Chair

Welcoming

Plans and oversees outreach programs.  Develops ways to welcome visitors, recruit new members, and actively integrate new members into the life of the congregation.  Works with other groups to remove barriers that might keep people from being part of our church.  Educate the congregation as to the responsibility of each member to share faith and welcome others into our church.

Tom Meyer, Chair

Worship and Music

Has oversight of the worship services and musical programs, with specific concern for development and ordering of worship and communion services and times of worship.  Supervises choirs and all musical programs.  Provides for the decoration of the church for special seasons and oversees all equipment or resources used for worship.  Hires and supervises music director.
